PROGRAM THEME: Paradigms for Peace in the Global Community

DESCRIPTION:

This Program focuses on the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in post-Apartheid South Africa with emphasis on its paradigm for conflict resolution and peace. This very unique and innovative Program will explore the origins and nature of conflict, and teach strategies for conflict-resolution in our contemporary world. Participants will consider such concerns such as: What is truth? What is its role in a multi-national narrative and how does a multi-national state construct a societal narrative that serves all of its people? Can simply finding out the truth be all there is to justice? Is additional action ever called for? And how does truth and justice intersect and influence achieving peaceful coexistence in societies that have a history of racial and ethnic animosities? Sub-themes will include:

1. Truth Reconciliation Commission: Paradigm for Conflict Resolution and Harmonization
2. TRC Institutions and their Impact on Society: An Economic Analysis
3. TRC Institutions and their Impact on Society: A Political Analysis
4. TRC Institutions and their Impact on Society: A Psycho-Spiritual Analysis
