• Respect for Africa’s traditions and culture: The Institute’s teaching and research programs are informed by Africa’s traditions and culture, as defined by African-centered scholars, traditionalists, and experts.

• African solutions for African problems: The Institute’s teaching, research agenda, and incubator are all guided by needs defined by Africans, with concern for sustainable solutions.

• Cultivating support for Africa: ABI works to promote, among business men and women of the diaspora, understanding and appreciation of Africa’s great potential, and to secure their support for Africa’s renewal through business and cultural cooperation.

• Building on existing efforts: Whenever possible, ABI encourages leveraging the synergy of existing activities and ventures and coordinating pre-existing networks.
