While there are a growing number of colleges and universities that acknowledge the importance of African Studies in the curriculum, many find it difficult to raise the finances, and hire the faculty experts to support such a program. Drawing on the concept of academic synergy, GLN offers a Joint Global Studies (Africa) Degree Program available to universities throughout the world. Under this program, students take their general education and other courses at their home university. The courses for the major (concentration) in Global Studies (Africa) are taken at one of the GLN sites in Africa, and can usually be completed within two semesters/one year. Curriculum, instruction and academic facilities are provided by GLN. Advantages to students include international experience, cultural immersion, and acquiring foreign language competency.
GLN makes all arrangements for the students’ studies in Africa, including room and board and co-curricular activities. Additionally, when requested, GLN can second a professor (professors) who will offer all courses for the major on a partnering university’s campus, except capstone courses which must be taken at one of the GLN sites in Africa.
