About the African Languages Institute

The African Languages Institute (ALI) offers immersion programs in both modern and classical African languages and Cultural Studies, including Kiswahili and Mdw Ntr (ancient Egyptian). Participants may request admission to study for various levels of language immersion and fluency, and to African language degree programs. Our degree programs are offered in consortia with outstanding African universities. ALI also has language and cultural immersion “communities” located outside the continent which can provide valuable cultural orientation and basic language fluency, but the majority of instruction must be acquired through residency in Africa.

Upon request, ALI can organize and tailor instruction to client needs.

ALI’s staff comes from the ranks of academia and renowned traditional keepers of African languages and culture. All come with substantial teaching experience and many hold the highest academic qualification in their field. Moreover, the Institute maintains close relationships with numerous organizations and communities, and taps these resources for various co-curricular activities that reinforce language learning
